Tim Rose Recordings
Below are the albums I own or know about from assorted sources. Some may still available in vinyl or CD format, although access to them will depend on the country you are trying to buy them in. Tim was working at trying to buy back the rights to all his material so that it could be re-released on CD. The first two albums were re-released on a single CD in 1997 and the next two (the Capitol and Playboy ones) were released, again on a single CD, in August 1998. Most local record stores should be able to order them in. Getting his most recent albums should be straightforward, but you may be more successful on the web than in local shops. If you want info on how to get hold of CDs, check out my Web Links page, which includes a listing of second hand web sites. It also includes a link to the official Tim Rose website, where you can send for various CDs that Tim has produced over the years. If you want to try to get material on vinyl, the best way is through second hand shops or record fairs, although his albums are becoming collectors' items and are not cheap. Meanwhile, here's a full list of what he's done over the years, with production details, where available.

discographies, this compilation was planned, but never

| Tim considers this to be a
"pirate album" in that it was recorded in 1970,
but never released with his permission - and certainly
not with any royalties coming to him. The writer of the
title song, according to Tim, sold the master tape to the
owner of Tiger Lily Records and the album appeared. The
record company owner was not a person to take to court
for royalties, it would seem - at least not if you wanted
to retain your kneecaps! The album is remarkably short -
hardly value for money in these days of 74 minute CDs at
a mere 26 minutes. My sincere thanks to Juergen Wanda of Herne, Germany, for his help in providing details of this album, including the cover, and to Tim for filling in the background to its release. Before Tim's death, he was able to obtain a copy of the songs and said he planned to put them out, along with other material not yet on CD, for sale at live performances. Sadly, that can no longer happen. |

Q Magazine review of American Son by David Sheppard: Penning the dark, epochal 60s triumvirate of Hey Joe (adapted from a traditional song, subsequently mimicked by Hendrix), Morning Dew and Come Away Melinda ought to have cemented Tim Rose onto a sizeable plinth on rock's Pantheon. Sadly, he remains a peripheral figure despite celebrity referees such as Nick Cave. American Son is his first studio album in 24 years and with Rose in oak-age voice leading an unobtrusive band, it's a fine effort. At its best - the bleakly hymnal title track, the splendidly resigned Where Did The Good Times Go? - this is measured songwriting, abetted by his leathery timbre and ennui-tinted undertones. It's a tad too grave to win many new converts, but Rose must be used to that by now. |
