Tim Hardin Recordings
Below are the albums I own or know about from assorted sources. Some are still available in vinyl or CD format, although access to them will depend on the country you are trying to buy them in. Sadly, although Verve/Polydor has re-released their catalogue on CD, CBS (now Sony) has been a bit slower in bringing out old material by less well known artists, so the best way to get hold of later material by Tim Hardin may be through second hand shops or record fairs. Browse through this section for a track or album you want, then take a look at the Record Values page for details of some links to Internet record sellers - new and second-hand.

Double CD
containing most of the tracks from the original Verve
studio albums along with other tracks recorded before the
move to CBS that were re-recorded and released on the
Suite for Susan Moore album. Probably the essential CD to
have for all the most popular early material. Tracks 1 - 12 Tim Hardin 1 Tracks 13 - 22 Tim Hardin 2 Tracks 23, 24 Previously unreleased Tracks 25 - 32 Tim Hardin 4 Tracks 33 - 47 Previously unreleased Chronologically, much of the material on Tim Hardin 4 was demo material recorded in May 1964 around the same time as the material that ended up on This Is Tim Hardin. He was unhappy when Verve released this "inferior" material in 1969. The material for Tim Hardin 1 was recorded in July 1966 and for Tim Hardin 2 in April 1967. The musicians involved are: Tim Hardin - piano, guitar John Sebastian - harmonica Gary Burton - vibes Phil Krauss - vibes Buddy Saltzman - drums Earl Palmer - drums Sticks Evans - drums Walter Yost - bass Bob Bushnell - bass Felix Pappalardi - bass Art Butler - strings Produced by Erik Jacobsen |

| If I Were a Carpenter Black Sheep Boy Misty Roses Green Rocky Road How Long Don't Make Promises Smugglin' Man Hello Baby Reason to Believe How Can We Hang On To A Dream Lady Came From Baltimore It'll Never Happen Again |
Album released shortly after Tim's death, whether as a genuine memorial to his work or as a quick cash-in on the publicity surrounding his demise. Ironically, the liner notes express regret that his passing was overshrouded by the murder of John Lennon and so the album probably didn't get the sales that it might have done. |

A Best of album put out by
Verve after Tim moved to Columbia. It features tracks
from the first two albums. The running time was less than
half an hour, suggesting that this was designed to take
away the impact from the release of a studio album -
possibly Bird on a Wire. (Information thanks to Ken Balkow.) |

| This final album was recorded shortly before his death and only a few tracks were completed. It is obvious from the sound quality that some tracks were recorded at home - the piano is not properly miked up - and more work ought to have been done before release. However, it shows the route that Tim was taking and the desire to get back into the public eye. The title track was subsequently recorded by Joe Cocker and released as a single. Although the album has never made it to CD (and probably never will), the title track is available on the Polydor compilation CD Black Sheep Boy. | |

| Reason to Believe - the Interview How Can We Hang On to a Dream - the Songs |
1980/2000 Americam, Seattle |
| Hang On to a Dream* Misty Roses Lady Came From Baltimore Reason to Believe Black Sheep Boy If I Were a Carpenter Tribute to Hank Williams Hooked on You* |
This video was recorded 11 months before
his death It consists of an interview by Phil Hartman,
with some songs interspersed, then a performance of 8
songs recorded in a rehearsal studio in preparation for
his Homecoming Concert. Although it may have been broadcast quality video equipment that was used, there was only a single camera and so the whole thing is fairly static. After the fascinating Hardin interview, Hartman talks to Don Rubin, who produced several albums, including The Unforgiven. Rubin tends to offer a different interpretation of events. * Tim accompanies himself on piano - on all other tracks, he plays guitar. |

Tim appears on the 1973 Reading Festival live album (See For Miles CD, 1992), performing Hang On to a Dream & Person to Person.

He's on the sampler, "The Greater Antilles Sampler", performing Never Too Far.
He also appears on the 1994 CD Woodstock Diary, performing If I Were a Carpenter. The same song appears on the 4 CD boxed set of Woodstock. He can be seen (if you don't blink) on the movie Woodstock - the Director's Cut, walking through the crowd, guitar in hand. Sadly, his performance was not retained for the movie. However, a DVD was released in June 2002, called Woodstock Diaries (DVDSV3001D) which contains Tim's performance of If I Were a Carpenter. This is a unique opportunity to see him.
